Chapter Seven

It took every ounce of Ben’s control not to slam his fist into the bastard’s smug face as he released Amie’s arm. Neither had seen him approaching, and he’d stepped up behind them the same time Nick was also coming to intervene from behind the bar. Seeing any man grab a woman like that would piss him off, but Amie’s pale face and spasm of alarm had sent his rage skyrocketing.

Withdrawing his hand, the man leaned back, his expression going from arrogant to contrite. “Sorry. It was a misunderstanding is all.”

“I’ll bet,” Nick muttered.

Ben looked at Amie and saw the anger in her eyes, glad she hadn’t let him upset her. Which didn’t explain her answer when he asked, “Is that right, Amie?”

“More a lack of communication.” Turning to the other man, she said, “As you can see, Master Ben has arrived, so if you’ll excuse me?”

She reached for his hand, a first for her, and her cold, shaky fingers gave her away. Her bravado was as false as her explanation. Either she didn’t want to make a scene, or there was more between the two than either was saying.

“Of course. Nice meeting you, Amelia,” Cal drawled, his tone laced with sarcasm.

“You might brush up on the rules if you plan to return, Miller,” Nick advised. “Your membership is temporary.”

Miller nodded, his eyes ice-cold as he stalked off. Ben thought his camouflage hunting attire odd for the club scene, but that wasn’t as questionable as his behavior and attitude, especially for a guest.

Drawing Amie closer, he told Nick, “We need to keep an eye on him.”

“Please, Ben, not because of me. I’m sorry. I don’t want to cause problems for anyone. Maybe he had a bad day.”

“That doesn’t give him the right to do this, Amelia.” He held up her arm where bruises were already forming and saw her blanch. He’d ask her about giving Miller her full name later.

The owners of the club and Drew joined them just then, Shawn’s rigid expression boding ill for Miller as he demanded, “What’s going on here?”

Dakota growled and Clayton crossed his arms and wore his prosecutor’s face.

Ben didn’t care for Amie being the center of attention any more than she did from the discomfort she portrayed by fidgeting and bracing her free arm across her waist. He just noticed her lingerie and appreciated how the silk clung to her round breasts and pert nipples and the shorts hugged her hips. But he could see she wasn’t used to standing in front of five disgruntled Doms in such skimpy attire, which was adding to her embarrassment.

“Miller got out of line,” Nick said.

“I told you I didn’t like him,” Dakota growled.

Clayton sighed and rolled his eyes. “Dakota, you don’t like anyone.”

“And now you know why.”

Shawn held up a hand. “Are you all right, little one?” he asked Amie in a softer tone.

“Yes, thank you. It really was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and I’d rather you let it go.”

Ben didn’t understand her evasive dismissal when
